Don't bite the hand that feeds you
After work, the kids and I went to the garden to gather ingredients for dinner. Our garden is a magical place and is something that I hope our kids will always remember. A few weeks ago, we planted flowers (sunflowers, lavender), herbs (parsely, thyme, cilantro, basil), fruits (blueberries, raspberries, boysenberries, strawberries) and veggies (avocado tree, eggplant, lettuce, tomatoes, corn, squash and cucumber). We walked in there today and the kids picked the 10 or so ripe blueberries and 3 strawberries that they managed to not eat already. We then picked some lettuce, basil and mint.
We went inside, made rigotoni with tomato and portobella mushroom sauce, and sprinkled in our fresh basil at the end. We then made our salad with fresh lettuce. Ellie put the mint in the ice water and then the kids and I made a cobbler with the berries and some peaches from a local farmers market. The meal was delish.
But here's the real highlight of the evening. During dinner, Kiki and Declan could not resist putting the rigatoni noodles on their fingers. Halfway through dinner, Kiki screamed out in pain and ran to the bathroom. She came back holding her finger in agony. She forgot the noodle was on her finger and bit down to eat her own finger. As she explained what happened, we all burst out laughing, including Kiki, at the very silly situation.
